Public Policy Priorities

Every three years the Academy updates its public policy goals to align to its mission and vision. The goals advance our impact in four strategic focus areas: Well-Being and Prevention, Nutrition Security and Food Safety, Nutrition Care and Health Systems, and Diversity and Inclusion.

Medical Nutrition Therapy Act

The MNT Act would help more people receive nutrition services from RDNs and qualified practitioners by covering costs for a wider range of conditions and allowing more healthcare professionals to refer patients for MNT.

Farm Bill

The Academy advocates for a Farm Bill that supports nutrition security and equity, better access to healthful and culturally appropriate foods, sound science and program evaluation for future evidence-based decision making, and a healthful and sustainable food system.

Treat and Reduce Obesity Act

Passage of the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act would increase access to obesity care provided by RDNs. TROA also authorizes coverage for FDA-approved weight loss medications that complement Intensive Behavioral Therapy.

Dietitian Licensure Compact

The Academy was selected through a competitive grant process for the DOD funding to work with the Council of State Governments' National Center for Interstate Compacts on an interstate licensure compact for the nutrition and dietetics profession.
