September 14, 2023 – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Medicare Physician Fee Schedule is a complete listing of fees used by Medicare to pay Part B providers for services rendered. Additionally, the MPFS provides information that not only describes covered services but also provides guidance as to how those services may be delivered.
In this year’s proposed rule, CMS listed several items that will impact registered dietitian nutritionists. The Academy supports many of the changes proposed in the payment policies under the Physician Fee Schedule and applauds continued efforts by CMS to work within their regulatory power to fine-tune polices that will support access to and delivery of safe, equitable and effective health care. Specifically, Academy comments focused on the provision of MNT and DSMT when delivered via telehealth in supporting RDN access to caregiver training CPT codes and expanding access to MNT for all stages of chronic kidney disease.

The Academy looks forward to continued opportunities to work with CMS to design a health care delivery and payment system that improves the health of the nation and meets the needs of all stakeholders.
In addition to submitting comments, the Academy also provided input to comments submitted by the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance, the Wound Care Alliance, National Kidney Foundation, and the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists.
