Navigating Future Practice: VUCA

An acronym coined by leadership theorists and adopted by organizations and institutions around the world, the concept of VUCA describes environments characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In a VUCA world, there is unpredictability both in the physical world, and in social systems. The future deviates in important ways from the past, so we cannot rely on past patterns to prepare for an uncertain future. The realities of a VUCA world have many implications for future dietetics practice, and understanding them will prepare registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered (NDTRs) to thrive in practice.
