Academy Celebrates National Nutrition Month^® 2024 with Nasdaq Closing Bell

New York City — The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrated National Nutrition Month^® and registered dietitian nutritionists as dozens of Academy members, educators and students gathered at Nasdaq Market Center in Times Square to ring the Closing Bell. Below is a transcript of President Dr. Lauri Wright's remarks:

It is my privilege to represent the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to be joined by my peers and these students — who are the future — and these educators who are preparing them for the best career I could have imagined: to become registered dietitian nutritionists.

I’d like to tell you about them.

With their rigorous STEM education, extensive training and dedication to individuals and communities, dietitians play a vital role in ensuring a healthier, happier world.

They are trusted authorities on the complex and ever-evolving world of nutrition science.  They are the champions of evidence-based knowledge on food, health and well-being.  Whether it's managing chronic disease, crafting personalized nutrition plans, or addressing dietary needs at different life stages, RDNs are the experts.

But it's not just their knowledge that sets them apart; it's their unwavering commitment to advocating for the people they serve. Registered dietitian nutritionists are driven by a passion to make a real difference in the lives of their communities. They guide individuals through the confusing landscape of nutrition, promoting not just "diets," but sustainable lifestyle changes.

Dietitians are at the forefront of promoting health equity.  They recognize that access to proper nutrition is a fundamental human right, and they work tirelessly to bridge the gaps in our society, to ensure everyone has tools, resources and knowledge to lead healthier lives.

As we celebrate the ringing of the NASDAQ Closing Bell, let us applaud those who are shaping a world where health and well-being are within everyone's reach.  We honor these remarkable professionals for their tireless efforts and unyielding dedication. May their work inspire all of us to become champions for a healthier world. Thank you!
