The Academy advocated for improved network adequacy standards, fair Medicare Advantage rates and the incorporation of RDNs and MNT into quality measures in comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regarding the Calendar Year 25 Advance Notice for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Programs.
The Academy acknowledged CMS' ongoing efforts to improve health care access and quality. The comments also stated that by enhancing RDN network adequacy in Medicare Advantage networks and incorporating MNT into quality metrics such as blood pressure and blood-sugar control, MA beneficiaries can access essential nutrition services, leading to enhanced health care accessibility and quality, and promoting patient-centered care.
Medicare Advantage plans play a crucial role in addressing the health care needs of diverse and vulnerable populations. These plans offer additional services like medically tailored meals and MNT services, extending beyond diabetes and kidney disease. Transparent access to these services is essential, especially for individuals with nutrition-related conditions, particularly among low-income groups facing access to care challenges.
Recognizing the pivotal of MA plans in shaping health care services for older Americans and specialized populations, the Academy welcomed further collaboration with CMS to develop a health care delivery and payment system that address SRHN and meets the needs of all stakeholders.
Academy members are encouraged to join the monthly Payment and Reimbursement Affinity Group meeting for updates on this initiative and more.
