Academy Committees
Among our many volunteer leadership opportunities are Academy committees — official groups comprised of volunteers and staff who collaborate to fulfill tasks and responsibilities aligned with the Academy's Strategic Plan. Committees are reviewed every three years.
Board Committees
- The Finance and Audit Committee monitors financial performance, recommends allocation of Academy resources to achieve strategic and operating objectives, and prepares Academy budgets for Board acceptance.
- The Governance Committee reviews all governing documents and strategic policies, reviews potential volunteer conflicts of interest, and reviews proposed Academy Bylaws changes and determines recommendations for Board support to present to the House of Delegates.
- The Policy and Payment Committee reviews and approves legislative language responses, regulatory comment submissions and proposed sign-on opportunities for the Academy, submits policy stances for priority issues, and approves public policy priorities for Board acceptance.
- The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Committee advises on the operationalization of the Academy’s IDEA philosophy throughout the organization’s culture, including organizational membership and the profession.
Non-Board Committees
- The Research Committee oversees and guides research activities aligned with the Academy’s priorities and strategic plan, such as reports, scientific publications, or position statements and professional papers including practice guidelines.
- The Honors Committee makes recommendations to the Board of recipients of the Academy’s national honors and awards.
Standing Committee
- The Nominating Committee identifies and evaluates nominees for elected leadership roles and selects the final candidate for the national Academy ballot.
Operational Committees
- The Committee for Lifelong Learning reviews Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo® educational session proposals and provides oversight for all programming offered by the Academy to assist members in achieving their lifelong learning goals.
- The Practice Excellence Committee enhances the effectiveness and impact of dietetic practice groups, streamlines collaborations between practice groups and Academy staff, and identifies practitioner resource needs and product development opportunities.
Open committee positions are filled annually by appointment (with the exception of the Nominating Committee, which is elected). Learn more about Academy Volunteer Opportunities.
