FNCE® 2024 Coffee Chat Recap: Savvy Travel Tips for Minneapolis

Published August 16, 2024

Whether you're on the fence about going to the 2024 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo® or are signed up and looking for good deals to save money, we've got you covered. Meet Minneapolis' Director of Destination Services & Events Tamara Spude, CMP, DES, was joined by Academy staff on August 7 for a presentation that shared facts about the city, easy and affordable options for traveling around Minneapolis, the innovative food scene, great deals on entertainment and lots of FNCE®-specific cost-saving tips. Among the recommendations:

  • Take advantage of the award-winning transit, including the METRO Transit Light Rail ($2.50 rides during rush hour; go from the airport to downtown Minneapolis in under 30 minutes) and the METRO Transit Bus (free option for downtown). You can get a $5 visitor pass for all-day unlimited light rail and bus travel.
  • The Minneapolis Skyway connects more than 80 city blocks with 9.5 miles of enclosed second-level pedestrian bridges. This means hotels, restaurants, bars, retail and offices are easy to get to without going outdoors.
  • Free and instantly delivered via text message and email, the Minneapolis Savings Pass is a mobile-exclusive collection of curated attractions, retailers, restaurants and more that offer deals and discounts during your visit.
  • Also free, some of the top attractions to see include the Walker Art Center & Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Saturday Mill City Farmers Market, murals and public art and, of course, a trip to the Mall of America (though you might be tempted to splurge, since there's no sales tax on clothes or shoes!).
  • As for FNCE® registration, the earlier you register, the lower your rates will be. This includes the exclusive add-on package of session recordings, which is available only to FNCE® registrants.
  • Booking a hotel room through onPeak gets you the best prices on accommodations within walking distance to the convention center. Hotels will sell out, especially since there is a big running event taking place the same weekend.

Watch the coffee chat recording for even more tips and strategies to save money while visiting Minneapolis this October for the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo®.
