The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics submitted recommendations for consideration in response to the Scientific Report of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC).
The DGAC’s independent, evidence-based findings were used to create the Scientific Report. This report, along with public input, will be used to inform the Departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture in the development of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030.
Highlights from the Academy’s comments include:
- The Academy support of the DGAC’s:
- Findings on the assessment of dietary intakes throughout the lifespan
- Recommendations on dietary patterns and specific components across life stages
- Findings on the importance of complementary feeding and feeding styles and practices during childhood
- Strategies for individuals and families related to diet quality and weight management
- The Academy supports the expansion of the scope of the evidence reviewed to examine not only recommended amounts and types of foods, but also strategies to effectively promote healthy dietary patterns across the life cycle.
The Academy has been involved throughout the process for the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Six Academy members and credentialed practitioners were selected to serve on the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
The Academy stands ready to support the U.S. government in evidence generation, interpretation, translation and implementation as our mission is to accelerate improvement in global health and well-being through food and nutrition.
